Published Academic Article: "QAnon and the Rebirth of the Satanic Panic"

During my first year of graduate school I followed my research interests "down the rabbit hole" and emerged with the paper you see here. This piece was inspired by parallels I noticed between the Satanic Ritual Abuse Panic of the 1980s and 90s, and the emergence of the QAnon movement of the present. The paper uses Stanley Cohen's "Moral Panic" framing to explain why such phenomena recur in societies, and how they are often driven by shifts in the media landscape. 

 

This paper is the product of months of research, focused on the highly technical domain of communications regulation, and free expression law. With the aid of my professor, I submitted this paper to the academic journal, Gnovis, where it went through several rounds of peer editing to before being published in Gnovis Volume 22. This article was a labor of love, and I am more than happy to talk about it with anyone who's interested!
